No Season Extension 2015
Would members please note there will be No Season Extension for salmon fishing this year and the season will finish as normal on September 30th.
Given the very difficult year experienced with fungal disease and the introduction of the emergency bye -law restricting salmon fishing to ‘Fly Only and Catch and Release on July 22nd I am sure members will feel this is the right approach.

EA awards landmark fisheries contract to Angling Trust
Slightly old news but of interest nevertheless –
The Environment Agency has awarded a landmark fisheries contract to the Angling Trust. This announcement follows a “rigorous competitive process” and is part of the EA’s “continued drive towards greater partnership working leading to thriving fisheries and angling throughout England”.
Tracking sea trout – AARC project

Dr Andrew King of Exeter University is using DNA sampling to track sea trout in the south-west of England as part of an Atlantic Aquatic Resource Conservation (Aarc) project.

Moratorium on Kola rivers salmon fishing
Widespread fish death on Kola peninsular possibly due to UDN according to the the Barents Observer.
The moratorium takes effect on 17 August and will cover several rivers, among them the Kola, Kitsa and Tuloma river basin.

There is a suggestion that the disease we have been observing may not be UDN. However, the article above appears to describe precisely the appearance and consequences of what we have been seeing.
The good news is that at least one shoal of clean sea trout has been spotted in the river recently.
